Car park ventilation systems

AWAK jet fan systems ventilate a car park in two modes: day to day they keep exhaust gases at safe levels, and in a fire they control the airflow and clear smoke from the affected zone. Jet fans replace smoke extract ductwork, giving the car park more headroom and bringing the installed cost down. We handle the job from equipment selection through to commissioning.

Product Characteristics

A car park with no smoke extract ductwork

More headroom, a freer run for the other services and a lower installed cost.

One system, two operating modes

Everyday ventilation driven by CO and LPG detection plus fire mode ventilation, in a single installation.

Delivery from design through to handover

Equipment supply, installation, hot smoke testing and commissioning documentation.

Key features of the system:

  • mechanical ventilation using a fan

  • smoke extraction via a smoke vent in the ceiling

  • Maintaining a constant airflow through the damper regardless of whether the door is open or closed; controlling fan speed via an inverter (certified control cabinets)

Placement of Components in a Mechanical Smoke Exhaust System

Classification of smoke exhaust systems in buildings based on height:

  • low - up to 12 m and up to 4 stories - the most commonly used system is a gravity-based smoke exhaust system (detectors, certified control panel, smoke damper)

  • moderately high - 12 / 25 m up to 9 stories - a mechanical smoke exhaust system is most commonly used (F200-class fan, certified control unit, smoke damper)

  • high - 25 / 55 m up to 18 stories - two systems are used: mechanical smoke exhaust (an F200-class fan, a certified control unit, and a smoke vents) and a smoke control system (a certified pressure differential system)

  • high-altitude - 55 m and above - a smoke control system (certified pressure differential system) is used

Types of buildings:

  • public buildings

  • retail and service buildings

  • multifamily buildings

  • warehouse and manufacturing facilities

  • logistics centers

When a fire is detected, the damper opens and the supply fan starts up. We use a differential pressure transducer or a measuring bar to smoothly regulate the fan speed (e.g., when a door is opened). This prevents a drop in airflow at the smoke damper. Keep in mind that too low an outlet velocity increases the time required to clear smoke, while too high a velocity causes turbulence near the ceiling and adversely affects the system’s effectiveness.

  • smoke exhaust button

  • visual and audible alarm

  • smoke detector

  • alarms

  • differential pressure transducer or measuring strip mounted in the smoke damper

For industrial and public facilities, we offer smoke exhaust fans (class F400) in an insulated housing with a smoke damper.
